According to the Agriculture Department, 377,251 tonnes of Malaysian durian were produced in 2019. Malaysian durian imports have increased, produces approximately 300,000 tonnes of durian each year, with prices averaging RM85/KG (RMB135).
However, due to bad weather and the pandemic, durian production has decreased significantly, which is one of the main reasons for the increase in durian prices, that can range from 30% to 40%.
Durian sellers are now selling their products through online platforms, providing durian with a new market. In the coming years, Malaysia will be able to sell more than 80 billion RMB of durian to China.
